What things to do in Denia in Spain? A list of must-see places!

Are you thinking of visiting Denia? Then you’d better make sure you visit these places, which should be essentials on any list. They include numerous monuments, its historic centre and its beaches, of course! Would you like to find out more? Here’s a guide to the must-see places in Denia!

The spectacular Denia Castle

This castle is, without a doubt, the area’s historic and cultural epicentre. Its Arab construction dates back to the 10th and 11th centuries. It served as a fortress during the period of piracy in the Mediterranean Sea. If you’re a curious visitor, we recommend you visit the Archaeology Museum inside the castle.

Finally, as it’s located at the highest point in Denia you simply have to check out the views it offers. You’ll be blown away!

Gerro Tower

Berber pirates sailed these waters during the 16th century. To prevent their occasional raids on the town, a network of raised fortifications was constructed along the coast.

Consequently, Gerro Tower is a high watchtower situated at the end of Las Rotas. It aimed to spot any potential danger. Its structure has a circular floor plan and it stands 13.5 metres tall.

In addition, you can reach this tower by walking just 5 kilometres along a pleasant path with sea views. It’s a great way to spend some time!

The original Toy Museum

This peculiar toy museum in Denia will intrigue adults and delight children. It’s a free museum displaying a wide variety of toys from the beginning of the 20th century up to the 1960s. This is owed to the fact that Denia’s toy industry was particularly relevant during that time period.

You can see toys made from wood and others made from metal, representing different inventions on wheels, like pedal plands, cars and even sail boats from the time. There are lots of interesting things to see in Denia, right?

The marina

The marina is located on the city’s south coast. This is both a sports and tourism sailing port with a great level of activity. Not only can you release some adrenaline by hiring jet skis, kayaks, a motor boat or a sail boat, but you can also enjoy a relaxing spot of fishing or a boat ride enabling you to enjoy the wonderful scenery.

Additionally, next to the Sailing Club you can find the equipment necessary for any activity you can think of. All you need to do is have fun!

Swim at the beaches in Denia

Of course, one of the essential things to see in Denia is its beaches. Many of these are among the region’s most popular with tourists. The Denia coast consists of 15 kilometres of beach, with two very different sections in terms of their geographic characteristics.

To the south is Las Rotas, an area which is quieter, making it perfect for diving or snorkelling among the rocks. This section has five beaches with rocky depths, with the only sandy beach here called Marineta Cassiana.

On the other hand, to the north of the city you will find the Las Marinas section, which is home to six busier beaches with fine sand, the majority of which have been granted Blue Flag status.

Montgó Natural Park

Explore Montgó Natural Park. It spans 2117 hectares and its highest point, the Montgó peak, stands 753 metres tall. This is the perfect place for cycling and hiking along the different trails on its hillsides and, if you feel a little more daring, up to the peak. Similarly, different companies organise all kinds of adventure activities in this area, such as climbing, canyoning, quad biking, and much more!

Likewise, the area is home to incredibly diverse flora and fauna that has been estimated at more than 650 species. This biodiversity includes wild boars, foxes, eagles, owls, falcons and peregrines. Have you decided which activity you want to do? Give them all a try!

Explore the historic quarter

Here at Villasol Campsite, we recommend you take a walk around Denia’s historic centre, with its pretty streets and the aforementioned castle. When walking through the centre you can spot stunning examples of old and modern architecture!

In the old town you will see the former homes of fishermen, colourful lanes and elegant buildings.

Marine Reserve of Cabo de San Antonio

This nature reserve is a protected area given its high ecological value. It covers almost 900 hectares and takes its name from the impressive cliff situated here, from which you can enjoy wonderful views of the coast. This area can be accessed via a trail.

As this is a nature reserve, you can visit it on boats without a motor, while you can also go swimming and freediving. You can enjoy a number of activities here!

Gastronomy

The street named Calle Loreto was pedestrianized as it is the epicentre of restaurants in the historic quarter. Denia’s gastronomy options and famous cuisine are notable attractions. This area is a must among the diverse things to see in Denia. Sample the culinary delights this wonderful land has to offer!

There you have it. Things to do in Denia. What will you be visiting first?
