What to see in Benissa

Benissa is a town located in the northeast of the province of Alicante and also belongs to the Marina Alta region. Its history goes back thousands of years and civilisations such as the Iberians, the Romans, the Christians and the Arabs have passed through its streets and left their mark on the town. For this reason, you can find a great cultural legacy and inhabitants with a very open character. Are you going to spend your next holidays in the area? Then you should know what to see in Benissa.

What to see in Benissa on your next holiday?

Do you know what to see in Benissa? Above all the sun. This town has more than 300 sunny days a year and a pleasant temperature practically every day of the year. That is why, when you are on holiday in the area, you cannot miss out on everything this beautiful town has to offer:

  • The beach. Although some people confuse the coast of Benissa with that of the nearby towns of Calpe and Moraira, the truth is that it has its own coastline that stretches for 4 kilometres. You can bathe in its rocky coves and clear waters.

  • Pinets cove. Among all the coves mentioned in the previous point, you can’t miss the sunset at Cala Pinets. The colours of the area, together with the fact that it is usually quite quiet, will allow you to enjoy a few moments of calm on your next holiday. In summer it does not receive as many visitors as others, but as soon as the tourists leave, it is the ideal place to spend a day at the beach and find very few people.
  • Old Town. The Old Town of Benissa is one of the most spectacular in the area. We recommend that you start your walk in the Plaza del Portal, in order to see the town’s Town Hall. This building was built in 1790 and until the early eighties of the last century it was the Municipal Hospital. It is worth visiting the Church of San Pedro, which was once built as a fortress to protect the town from pirate attacks. Although it has other interesting sites, we recommend that you don’t miss the headquarters of the University of Alicante.

  • Church of the Purísima Xiqueta. It is also known as the Catedral de la Marina and you simply cannot miss it. It is neo-Gothic in style and has three spectacular naves, with a central dome and an altar. It was built during the first decades of the last century and the work was paid for by the local citizens themselves. That is why it is so special and also because it is dedicated to the patron saint of Benissa, the Purísima Xiqueta.
  • Peñón de Ifach. Yes, we know, the Peñón de Ifach is not in Benissa, but in Calpe. But from the Cala Baladrar cove you can contemplate this natural monument. However, it is made of boulders, has a lot of vegetation and cannot be reached by a path. You have to walk a little way along the road or arrive by car and leave it in the car park.
  • Paddle Surf. Even if you haven’t paddle surfed yet, you surely know that it is one of the trendiest water sports. In Benissa you can enjoy this experience in some of its coves. It is ideal for both with the family and with friends. What’s more, you don’t need to be an expert, you’ll have a great time watching everyone’s progress.
  • Ecological Walk. Hiking is for many people one of the best options to enjoy a day in contact with nature, admiring the scenery and getting some exercise. Benissa is the perfect place for this kind of experience. It has the Paseo Ecológico (Ecological Walk), which is a route of about four kilometres. Its itinerary runs parallel to the coast and you can enjoy the sea views, but also a very pleasant breeze that will make the effort less strenuous.
  • Beniarda mountain range. This mountain range serves as a natural border between the regions of Marina Alta and Marina Baja. It is another option for hiking, but in this case in the mountains. Once you cross the natural tunnel carved into the rock, you reach a kind of viewpoint that allows you to contemplate all the beauty of the area.
  • Gastronomy. Finally, you can’t miss out on the rich gastronomy of the area. You’ll find different options, which are also suitable for all budgets. What do we recommend? Without a doubt, go for the paella or some fried fish, but everything will be delicious.

From Camping Villasol, now that you know what to see in Benissa, we encourage you to get to know this town and spend your next holidays with us. We are waiting for you from today.
