Original costume ideas for kids, create your own!

Halloween is approaching, one of the most celebrated dates in any family, where the question of what to dress up as this year arises. In this post, we want to inspire you to find original costume ideas for children that you can even make by yourself.

Choosing a costume for Halloween is one of the preparations that anticipates the excitement of this date. Sometimes, it happens that families find themselves in the countdown without having thought about what costume the children will wear on this day.

Film Inspiration

Finding inspiration in films is one of the first steps, for example, with the costume of Maleficent or the pirate Jack Sparrow can be the protagonist of this date. Disney undoubtedly inspires many possibilities especially with current films like Frozen or the more recent Cruella. A black and white wig, a black dress and a pair of pearl necklaces is an easy and trendy way to become the evil Dalmatian Madame.

On the other hand, the heroic inspiration of classic superheroes is always a recommendable and easy option. The Batman costume can be started with a black fabric (any fabric) and then cut off the ends and use, for example, cardboard to make a simple mask. You can finish it off with an illustration of the famous bat sign on the chest.

Who doesn’t know Harry Potter? It can be a simple costume too. Use an adult’s black jacket for example to act as a toga, a coloured tie or scarf, a wooden stick, a lightning bolt on the forehead, some toy glasses and… done! It works for a little girl too, just omit the glasses and the lightning bolt.

Animal Inspiration

It may be more suitable for younger children, although it can be a lot of fun if the whole family tries it.

How about a sheep? With a white T-shirt, white trousers and a big cotton packet, we take a black hat and sew 2 socks as ears and we can make a funny sheep costume.

The Cow costume idea is classic but irresistible, especially for the youngest members of the family. With a white bodysuit and a white hat to which we glue pieces of black felt to make the cow’s spots. Glue 4 bottle teats on the tummy and you have a beautiful little cow ready.

Another simple idea for a homemade animal costume is an owl costume. Get a long-sleeved black T-shirt, several pieces of fabric in shades of brown and grey to make feathers, scissors, a needle and thread or textile glue. For the mask you will need a pair of sunglasses, coloured cardboard, cutter and tape.

Original Ideas

We start with a simple and fun proposal: Scarecrow. With old clothes and some frayed strings as straw, combine brown colours with half shades of green and yellow preferably. Get some face paints and a hat and you will have a scarecrow worthy of any fantasy film.

Another of the most original proposals is to make a simple Frida Kahlo costume. To do this, you will need a scarf (preferably green), a pink or red flowered dress that you can print some flowers on and a flower headband. Don’t forget an eyeliner pencil to mark Frida’s characteristic eyebrows.
