One of the great advantages of spending your holidays at our campsite is that you have an infinite number of activities to choose from. The Costa Blanca has a multitude of hiking routes, some of them in the mountains. If you are an adventurer, but especially if you plan to be one, you will be interested to know how to dress for the mountains. We will also show you how to dress depending on the temperature.
How to dress for the mountains in hot weather?
In this article we are going to focus mainly on how to dress to go to the mountains depending on the time of the year you choose. A day that is expected to be hot is not the same as a day when it is guaranteed to be cold.
We’ll start by looking at what to wear if you’re going to the mountains on a day when it’s expected to be hot:
- Breathable clothing. In an area like the Costa Blanca you have to deal with both heat and humidity. That’s why you need to wear clothes that are breathable and cool. Opt for materials such as cotton or linen, rather than artificial fibres, although nylon or polyester don’t work too badly.
- Colours. Always opt for light colours. It is true that they stain more, but they also retain less heat. You will feel cooler with this type of clothes.
- Mobility. Your clothes should allow you to move easily. Make sure you don’t trip over the length of a pair of trousers or get caught in the width of a T-shirt.
- Protection. Experienced mountaineers know that in summer it is best to wear cool clothing that covers as much skin as possible. Such as long-sleeved shirts or long trousers. If you opt for shorter clothing, you’ll need to wear sunscreen all the time. Also, don’t forget to wear a cap or hat to cover your head, and if possible, also the back of your neck and your face.
- Footwear. The footwear you wear should be comfortable, resistant and have a good grip on the ground. In fact, we recommend that you use models that are specifically designed for this activity. For example, trekking shoes.
- Layers. Take some extra clothes for the mornings and evenings, as the temperature will be cooler at these times of the day.
- Rain. It is true that you can check which day to go out in the mountains and choose one that is expected to be sunny. However, you can always be surprised by rain. So carry some waterproof clothing in your backpack.
- Backpack. Speaking of backpacks, choose a model that allows you to carry everything we’ve mentioned, plus a mobile phone, plenty of water, enough food and everything you need for the day. Be careful with its weight, though. This advice is valid regardless of the weather, so we won’t repeat it below.
How to dress for the mountains in cold weather?
The first thing we recommend is that you don’t go to the mountains or go on a route if the weather is bad. This is taking unnecessary risks and exposing yourself to the risk that a day that was meant to be a great day out could turn into a nightmare.
In addition, we advise you to take into account these tips on clothing:
- Thermal clothing. All the clothes you wear should be thermal, as they retain your own body heat better and also prevent the cold from passing through them. You will find many options on the market, especially if you go to specialised shops.
- Colours. In this case, we recommend that the colour of your clothes is dark, as it attracts more of the sun’s rays that you are sure to find on your tour of the Costa Blanca.
- Multiple Layers. We advise you to wear several layers of clothing. A T-shirt, a sweatshirt, a light jacket and a warmer jacket. Also leggings and trousers. You can wear all these clothes, but the idea is to adapt them to the temperature during the day.
- Waterproof clothing. You can always be caught out in the rain, so it is important to wear waterproof clothing. At least a jacket and trousers. You’ll avoid ending up literally soaked to the skin.
- Accessories. As well as keeping your head well covered, it is important to protect your hands and feet from the cold. You can also wear a pair of thermal gloves or socks.
- Footwear. The first tip is to buy a size up in hiking boots so that you can wear thick socks. Also, make sure they are rainproof and have non-slip soles.
If you follow all these tips we have seen, you will know how to dress to go to the mountains in summer or winter. If you leave from our campsite, we can help you with any other questions you may have. Besides, very close to here you have an incredible destination such as the Serra Gelada.
