Although it is not famous for this, Benidorm is an ideal destination for hiking or cycling along the different routes, both inland and along the coast, that it offers throughout its surroundings. Benidorm has a special feature that sets it apart from other holiday towns, and that’s the high mountain peaks, the pine forests, the routes that don’t lose sight of the sea and routes with historical significance. Do you want to know the most famous hiking routes in Benidorm? Don’t miss the following lines!
You’ll find routes to suit all tastes. Whether you’re out with your friends, your family or your partner, you’ll be spoilt for choice. There are conditioned and accessible routes for everyone, but there are also trails for the more daring and adventurous, who don’t hesitate for a second to explore and go off the beaten track. Without a doubt, it’s a different way of getting to know Benidorm and from a point of view you’ve never thought of before.
The Sierra de Bernia mountain range runs through inland Alicante along ten kilometres of paths parallel to the coast. The views it offers are panoramic views that you will always remember and will leave you with photographs to frame.
With the help of binoculars and on the clearest days you can see the island of Ibiza. But this is only one of the different secrets that you can find in the Sierra. There are some ruins of ancient coastal forts that were built as defence and surveillance against invading armies.
The most famous route will take you to the Forat de Bernia. The Forat de Bernia route takes you to the most iconic hole in the area. This hole is a passage of about twenty metres that leads to views of the immensity of the Mediterranean Sea. Although it is a narrow path at first, don’t be afraid to follow it.
The Serra Gelada Natural Park is the most frequented for its variety of comfortable, adapted and accessible trails. It is characterised by routes with cliffs and incredible views. Among the secrets it hides are virgin and paradisiacal coves that can only be accessed by the sea itself. You will have to discover them!
But it doesn’t stop there, there is a lot to see in the Serra Gelada. From the Cruz de Benidorm you head north. The Albir lighthouse is the most representative stop in the whole park, although you will also find a prehistoric settlement, Roman mines and a medieval watchtower.
En esta lista no podía faltar el Puig Campana, si bien tiene una ruta acondicionada, los más valientes tienen a su disposición una subida por la parte central totalmente natural. Desde la cima se puede apreciar tanto la belleza del mar como los interiores de la comarca.
This list could not miss the Puig Campana, although it has a conditioned route, the bravest have at their disposal a completely natural ascent through the central part. From the top you can appreciate both the beauty of the sea and the inland areas of the region.
This mountain is the main culprit of Benidorm’s microclimate, as its height is capable of stopping weather elements, such as clouds.
It is in the municipality of Finestrat, next to Benidorm and, as we mentioned, it can be a demanding climb. The highest peak is about 1,400 metres high, so the entire ascent requires a good physical condition. The most important thing if you intend to do the whole of Puig Campana is time. There are almost fifteen kilometres of paths, so you have to keep an eye on the weather, especially in the winter months.
