7 Family sports for this summer

The summer is not over yet and we have to make the most of it. And it’s not just a matter of deck chairs and paella, especially if you’re a parent. There are many activities that allow you to enjoy good times with your family and also keep you in shape. We show you the 7 family sports you can do if you are on holiday in a beach area.

Family sports you can practice in summer

Holidays can become long and boring if you don’t do any kind of activity. Family sports are a good option. Your children will be entertained, spend energy and enjoy quality time with their parents. These are some of the seven most fun things you can do.

1. Natación

The benefits of swimming are well known. The resistance offered by the water and the movement of almost all muscles and joints make it a perfect summer sport for the whole family. You can practice it at the beach and in the pool, although it is always important to be alert, to avoid drowning.

Don’t just swim around. Challenge your children and your partner to races, form teams, do relays or propose challenges, this way it will be much more fun. In addition, you can teach values such as persistence, self-esteem or honesty, among others.

2. Snorkel

Children love to get into the water. One way to take advantage of this natural tendency is to go snorkelling. If the water on the beach is calm, they will enjoy seeing the fish and other treasures on the sea bed, such as rocks or shells.

In the sports shops you can find the classic glasses and the breathing tube. If you choose this option, you have to teach the children well, so that they don’t swallow water when they dive. You can also choose the snorkel mask, which is safer and allows a greater angle of vision of the bottom.

3. Kayak

There are some sports that have gained fame in recent years. For example, kayaking. There are some boats with room for two passengers, and even for two adults and a child. I’m sure the whole family will be delighted to do an activity like this.

The best thing to do is to rent a boat at the same time as you hire it. The sea can be treacherous, so it is better to have a guide who knows the area well. He can also take you to unique places, such as sea caves or reefs, for example.

A word of warning. Remember that the sea acts as a mirror and it is much easier to get burned. Always use a hat and also high factor sun protection in abundance, to avoid sunburn.

4. Beach Voley

Many beaches have a net to practice volleyball. It is a lot of fun and the sand cushions some of the blows when the children fall on the ground. If there are no facilities of this type, you have the option of buying your own net and taking it with you whenever you go to the beach. And, if your children are small, there are softer balls for them.
This sport requires a lot of physical effort, so choose the last hours of the day to practice it. You’ll also need to drink plenty of fluids and use high-factor sunscreen, if there’s no shade yet.

5. Sports on wheels

If the rules of the area allow it, you can choose to practise sports on wheels in the places provided for this purpose. Bicycles, roller skates or scooters are some of the options. However, this is a sport that requires a high level of activity and must therefore be done outside of peak hours and without too much effort. In addition, you should bring enough fresh water for everyone to avoid heat stroke.

6. Racket sports

Paddle or tennis are not the best options for a hot summer day. However, there are other fun and less physically demanding options. For example, you can play ping pong or paddle, one of the classics on the beach. Besides, getting these materials is very affordable.

7. Hiking

Hiking is another family sport that is commonly practiced during the summer period. The best ones are those that are easy, with drinking water points along the way and that are done partially or totally in the shade of trees or mountains. It is also interesting that there is water to bathe in along the way, such as natural pools, rivers or waterfalls.

The importance of choosing the best accommodation

Practicing sports with the family during the summer is a good option to enjoy a good holiday. But, besides planning activities well and keeping the whole family active, there is something else to do. You need to make sure you choose the best accommodation for you and your family. It is very important that you have all the guarantees and the best location. A campsite to go with children can be a good option.
