Have you ever thought about which are the best children’s books to read as a family? At this time when we have to stay at home, there are many doubts about what to do so that the youngest members of the family can have fun. Although many schools have created online programs to continue with their studies, their free time has also increased, so there is always something to do.
To spend those free moments with the family, today we are going to recommend some children’s books, because reading is a perfect activity to do with them. Storybooks for the little ones
The best way to teach children is through tales with morals. Below we recommend some story books for children that we have loved, even as adults. As you will see, many of them are classics, but it is impossible for us to recommend others because they are worth reading. We have tried to deal with books for different ages but, as you surely know, we recommend that you take a look at them first, as only parents will know the level of their own children.
- A Taste Of The Moon (3-5 years): Is the moon sweet or salty? This book of Michael Greniec tells us the story of some animals that desired to know the taste of the Moon and give it a little bite, but nobody reached the moon no matter how much they tried. Finally, the turtle had a great idea.
- Good Night Stories For Rebel Girls (6-8 years) this book written by Elena Favilli and Francesca Cavallo banishes the idea of princesses, why not talk about a little girl who wanted to reach Mars, or a woman who became the best tennis player in the world? This book tells the story of 100 brave women.
- Where The Wild Things Are (6-8 años): written by de Maurice Sendak, tells the story of Max, a rebellious boy who would love to be a scary monster. One night, after making some mischief, his room turns into a jungle and he ends up becoming the king of all the monsters. Do you want to see how he manages it?
Adventure books for the not so little ones
Through adventure books for children it is also possible to learn. Here there are some books for children and adults that convey different messages in each reading, with no doubt a perfect way to spend time and also to be entertained.
- Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (6-8 years) when speaking about children’s books it’s impossible not to mention Roald Dahl. Mr Wonka has a chocolate factory and has hidden five gold tickets in his chocolates; anyone who finds them can visit his factory. When Charlie finds one of those five bills, his life will change forever.
- Le Petit Prince (+10 years): Antoine de Saint-Exupéry’s classic that has marked all of us, as “the essential is invisible to the eye” it is something we have learned from him. With a philosophical theme and thousands of possibilities for re-reading, it tells the story of a pilot who meets a child who is called “the little prince”.
- The Neverending Story (+10 years): one of the great works of fantasy literature, by Michael Ende, tells the story of Atreyu and Bastian, who together must save the kingdom of Fantasia and the Childlike Empress, to discover the mysteries of their own hearts.
Other types of children’s books
It is not all about literary stories, there are other types of educational books that teach other activities in a funny way. Let’s look at a few:
- The Magic Recipe Book (+10 years): this work created by the Spaniards Desiree Arancibia and Marta García Pérez is more than a cookbook. It compiles, through stories, a few recipes full of fantasy and healthy raw materials – a good way to learn to cook and have fun!
- Yoga Whale: Simple Poses for Little Ones (3-5 years): a book created by Sarah Jane Hinder and which is the best way to bring yoga to the little ones in the house. Through the characters of the oceans, 10 basic yoga postures are taught with colourful illustrations for children.
